Melissa Moore Clinic for Amateur Owners and Trainers February 18, 2008 |

| Tre Lee rode the beautiful three and a half year old Just Heavenly to demonstrate some techniques he uses to start a gaited horse. He was very informative about correct tack, shoeing and the stages of training his horses go through. Tre stressed keeping a horse limber, relaxed and responsive through the use of flexing motions so the horse will give to the bridle and leg pressure. He demonstrated this both standing still and when moving in side passes or on the rail. He demonstrated how this training assists a horse to bend through the turns. All of his young horses are trained to do a controlled walk, trot and canter before they are introduced to the slow gait and rack. Just Heavenly was a great representative of the results from Tre’s training methods. |

| Bret Day discussed Grey Ridge’s policy toward communicating and working with amateur riders, including customers who move an established horse and rider team to their barn. Ivy Johnson and Miss Outta My Way are a new team for Grey Ridge Stables in the Five Gaited Pony division, and they put on a working lesson demonstration. Some of Brett’s instruction related to bending the mount through the turns and using the turns to collect and prepare to make a great pass on the straight away. |

| Melissa drove striking Cherished King to demonstrate harnessing and training a Fine Harness entry. Cherished King earned top ribbons in the Three Year Old Five-Gaited classes last year and is being readied for Junior Fine Harness classes in 2008. Once agin, the correct harnessing for safety and the comfort of the horse were stressed during the instruction. Melissa also expressed her appreciation for the old fashioned park trot as opposed to a trot based upon speed, and her performance with Cherished King represented it well. |

|
| Mike Felty enthusiastically presented the road horse Valiant in sulky, and his assistant Andre’ Van Schalkwyk presented him under saddle. Correct tack and preparation were discussed. Mike discussed finding and developing a road horse. He also stressed the value and fun to be had by the entire family in showing Standardbred road horses. |

| Eddie Williams was assisted by Tony Rankin and the use of digital images, a petrified hoof and sample shoes for his educational presentation on correctly shoeing horses. Eddie was generous in answering questions about his methods for correcting various foot and motion problems. Attention was at a high during the valuable presentation. |

|
| Tom Lowry of Golden Creek Farm exhibiting the techniques involved in starting a young road pony in training. He moved through stages including using a continuous overcheck attached to the tail crupper and three dumb jockey overcheck positions before demonstrating the correct way to harness the pony and hook to the cart. He also indicated his meticulous method of storing the harness to maintain its shape and quality. |
